The Alps
Mt. Blanc, Mt. Eiger
The Alps, Europe’s most extensive mountain range, stretch 750 miles across eight alpine countries. Ann and Fred Weinmann’s 140-kilometer circumambulation of Mont Blanc (15,777 ft.), considered the birthplace and symbol of modern mountaineering, offered them the opportunity to experience the plants and flowers of sub-alpine and alpine habitats in the area, and views of spectacular geologic scenery.
The Weinmann’s explore the natural beauty as their hiking adventures take them into the shadow of the Matterhorn (14,692 ft.), an iconic emblem of the Alps, and beneath the north face of rock and ice of the Eiger, (13,025 ft.). They share with us the experience of the steep rocky trail, and the evening’s storytelling over a glass of wine, revealing the culture of European mountain hiking.
